A New Year

Welp. The ol' Sunshine Scooter is starting to awaken from his offseason hibernation. Not that anyone cares. I'm certain that I account for 90% of the hits on my website, and I don't get that many hits...

Sorry guys, my lack of posting can be attributed to a combination of two things: the lack of things to post about because it's the offseason, and I've been busy at work. I would blame my lack of posting on the fact that I am but one man. Sounds like a good excuse, right? Well, you never hear Seth or Zebbie or Ayleein using that excuse. The truth is, as gung-ho as I am about Tech Football, I dread writing. I know, it doesn't make sense, but I'm a weird person. So, I don't make it a point to post something new everyday.

I guess what I'm trying to get at is, I need to find someone with an attitude similar to mine (yikes!) to help me out with posting ...umm... posts on this site. Think you've got what it takes to help out? Shoot me an email.

......

And now, let's get to the good stuff. Actually, I don't have that much stuff to get to that already hasn't been covered. Mainly, I just wanted to let my one or two fans know that I am still alive. And, make fun of Aggie. Enjoy...

These Aggies chose to use their awesome education to make the world a better place to live.

Virginia Review

Look, I know I promised you a review of the 2008 Gator Bowl against Virginia, but posting one now wouldn't be... chronologically feasible. I could go through my usual progression and tell you about everything that happened, but 1: I can't remember everything that happened and 2: Seth over at DTN has already done a great job of breaking down the game. I will do this, though. I'll be kind enough to provide some thoughts.

Quarterbacks

Graham Harrell completed 64% of his passes for 407 yards and three touchdowns. Except for in two plays, I think he did a great job of keeping his composure and making the plays when they mattered. There were two times when he got pressured in his own endzone and made bonehead plays. You know what plays I'm talking about.

Runningbacks

Our Runningbacks performed poorly in the game. Kobey Lewis finished with 33 yards and Aaron Crawford finished with 29 yards and a touchdown. Not only did we not get the running game going (yes I know we finished at our average of 60ish ypg), but I think they did a poor job of staying in as an extra blocker. I guess that's more of a coaching thing, though.

Receivers

Crabbie had a below average game with 101 yards and a touchdown. EMo was clutch as always, including one phenomenal catch near the sideline. Grant Walker had a long catch/run when we needed to get something rolling. Then he fumbled it. Then Lyle Leong failed to jump on the loose ball. I was pretty excited about Detron Lewis's performance. I think he takes over Danny A's spot next year.

Offensive Line

The O-line did the best they could against a very talented defensive line. I think it's the best D-line we've faced all year. Yes, better than UTexas's line. I hope Rylan Reed is healthy for next year. He's a big talented guy and we really need him next year for our BCS run.

Defense

I think the defense is the MVP of the game. They did a GREAT job stopping the 'Hoo offense. This is the first time I think we have EVER been able to stop a running/dual threat quarterback. I hope Ruffin McNeill sticks around as DC next year. I really like what he's done with the defense this year, and I can't wait to see what his defense can do next year with an offseason to prepare and a strong defensive recruiting class. BTW, in case anybody is wondering, you can't penalize a defensive performance because of one play...

Special Teams

The onside kick was a brilliant move. The left footed punt was a great play (even though the snap was bad).

In Conclusion

In theory, we should've played much better, but we came out flat like we do in most bowl games. Maybe that's something we work on correcting next year, because we might have more at stake then...

I'll see you at the Fiesta Bowl next year!

Gator Bowl Highlight Video

Here is a highlight video of this year's Gator Bowl. Thanks to RedRaider427 for posting it.

BTW, I'm planning on writing my review of the Gator Bowl sometime today. If I don't get around to it today, it might get posted either late Friday or Saturday. Sorry for the delay, but I'm a bit busy at work (working 8 days a week), and I've been coming home in time to watch the bowl game, so that keeps me from doing my typing.

Classy on video

The video of the "classy" moment down in Santone.

A lesson in 'Class'

Boy, those aTm guys were right when they called Tech fans "Classless Clowns."

They are sooooo much more classier than we can ever hope to be. For example, only Tech fans would be so unclassy as to say derogatory remarks about the opponents coach. Ohh, wait a minute. There is this one little thing.

Was he a Tech fan in disguise? How else do you explain such classlessness from a aTm fan?

Wait, he must be a UTexas fan, because no self respecting Tech fan would ever wear something as homo as a yell leader outfit.

You stay classy, aTm!

Yes, he did touch the ball!!!

What an IDIOT!!! It just figures that he'd be related to Mack Brown.

In case you don't know what their talking about click here.

And, is it just me, or does UTexas always get the lucky breaks during ball games? I mean, I know they screwed up with that "illegal touching" thing, but three interceptions off batted passes and a touchdown after Colt McCoy fumbled it on the five yard line only to have one of his burnt-orange buddies land on it in the endzone. Come on! What's the deal with everything going their way?

Okay. Rant over. Now, I can focus on aTm losing tomorrow and Tech winning on Tuesday.

It's Bowl Season... Again!... Finally...

Well, I did my first go-thru of bowl picks earlier this month. I mentioned that I would finish the job, but have not delivered as of yet. Well, hold on to your hats, folks.
First off, let me amend some of my previously-made picks.

During my first analysis of the Florida State-Kentucky matchup, I said that it could go either way, depending on which Florida State team shows up. As we all know now, only about half the Florida State team will be ALLOWED to show up. Kentucky will win it.

I said Arkansas would have no problem beating Missouri, but I don't know how the 'Hogs will handle the coaching change, and Chase Daniel will want to have an amazing game to improve his draft status. This one goes back to the "anyone's game" category.

And now, our feature presentation:

Navy vs Utah in Poinsettia Bowl

At first, I was convinced that Utah would have no answer for Navy's running game. Now, with Coach Johnson leaving for Georgia Tech, I think Utah might have a chance at out-playing the Midshipmen. I think this game will go down to the wire and provide us with an excellent introduction to Bowl-a-palooza 2007.

Florida Atlantic vs Memphis in New Orleans Bowl

All I can say is: Your better off catching up on some last minute Christmas shopping. I don't know who will win this one, and frankly, I don't care. But, if I had to pick, I would choose Memphis over FAU.

Southern Mississippi vs Cincinnati in Papajohns.com Bowl

The Eagles are in the middle of a head coaching transition. The bearcats have a head coach that was on everyone's wish list. I think that's enough to put Cincy over Southern Miss.

Nevada vs New Mexico in New Mexico Bowl

Ahh, a tale of two wolves... I'll keep this one simple: The home team wins by two touchdowns.

UCLA vs BYU in Las Vegas Bowl

The Bruins have already beaten the Cougs once this year, but BYU is on a hot streak, and UCLA did lose to Notre Dame. I guess this could be a toss up, but my money is on BYU.

Boise State vs East Carolina in Hawaii Bowl

Boise State won't need a "hitch & pitch", a "halfback pass", or a "statue of liberty" to pull of this victory. An all-expenses paid trip to Hawaii for a week makes everyone a winner in this game.

Purdue vs Central Michigan in Motor City Bowl

Earlier in the year, Purdue beat Central Michigan, but that should be no precursor to what will happen in this game. Watch for talented Chippewa Quarterback Dan LeFevour to finish strong as he caps a very impressive season. In this one, the Chippewas fight back.

Boston College vs Michigan State in Champs Sports Bowl
Boston College was in the hunt for the National Championship earlier in the season. Quarterback Matt Ryan was a Heisman favorite. Both BC and Ryan's level of play dropped off near the end of the season. Look for the Eagles to redeem themselves in Orlando.
Houston vs TCU in Texas Bowl
Well, it's a Texas school playing a Texas school in the Texas Bowl. The game will be played in Houston, but don't give the victory to the Cougars. Coach Art Briles packed up and left for Waco earlier this month. Even with Briles at the helm, the Frogs would still be too much for U of H. This one stays close for a while, but the Frogs pull away in the fourth.
Maryland vs Oregon State in Emerald Bowl
I've always thought that Oregon State consistently fields a tough, competitive team. Maryland, on the other hand, spent the season losing to some weak teams and beating some good teams. This becomes a case of "Which Maryland team will show up?" I think the Terps will come up short, and/or the Beavers will play very strong football.
UConn vs Wake Forest Meineke Car Care Bowl
Wake Forest won the ACC last year, but finished fifth in the conference this year. UConn finished 4-8 last year, but finished a very good 9-3. The Huskies have all the momentum in the world. I think they'll come away with a victory.
Air Force vs Cal in Armed Forces Bowl
Yeah, I know a service academy should win the Armed Forces Bowl, but quite frankly, I don't think Air Force has the firepower (no pun intended) to keep up with an explosive Cal team.
Oregon vs USF in Sun Bowl
The only way Oregon wins this game is if Dennis Dixon starts and plays the entire game. I don't see this happening, so... Matt Grothe and the Bulls will come out with a victory in a close one.
Fresno St. vs Georgia Tech in Humanitarian Bowl
I think Fresno St. is a good team that always plays tough even with lesser talent. But, I like the Yellow Jackets in this one. Tech's offense will outscore the Bulldogs' offense.
Well, it's getting late, so I'll finish these up later later. Not right now, right now.

2007 Highlight Video

What follows is the very same video that can be seen on TexasTech.com. It's a highlight video of the 2007 season and serves as an excellent warmup for the 2008 Gator Bowl.

Enjoy!
